If Movie Posters Told The Truth
I remember when this movie came out… the critics liked it well enough but I didn’t get the LKJAFLKJAFSLJKASFLKJAFLJK THIS MOVIE IS TEH BESTEST sense from the reviews so I’m a little confused about how it got nominated for best picture
I mean probably a really persistent campaign but…
Something similar happened with The Blind Side too, didn’t it? The best I can figure is that the Academy goes “oh shit, everything we nominated is about white men, gotta get some ladies and nonwhite people in here or people will call shenanigans. HEY LOOK THIS FILM HAS BOTH, PROBLEM SOLVED, BACKPATS FOR EVERYONE.”
Haha, I remember the awkward conversation with my mother when she was trying to push this film and the book it was based on at me.
“BUT IT’S SO EMPOWERING, DEAR.”
